Become An Effective Rider

An effective rider is curious, they have self belief tempered by empathy with their horse, they have a drive to be around horses that calls them to share the now, the present moment with their horse. An effective rider seeks to understand their horse, to communicate with their horse and to ride with feel, tact and patience. 
When I’m in a reflective frame of mind I’ll consider why I’m so drawn to improve as a rider, to connect with my horse, to becoming so absorbed in schooling and caring for horses that I’ll face any number of challenges and go beyond my comfort zone to find those moments of connection with my horse.

I don't have a definitive answer and I don’t really need to know exactly what pulls me to be with horses. I can identify some of my reasons for enjoying schooling and my quest to ride at my best! There is an art form to riding that is timeless. Time does stand still for me when I find my flow. There is an endless fascination and curiosity in finding exercises that allow me to experience this magic with my horse. To share these feel good moments. 
So as a Coach, I might ask you to identify your Why because “ having an understanding of the why will help having an understanding of the how.” 
Whilst we can’t ask our horses these questions we can think about their responses and reactions to consider what they understood when we asked them questions through movements and shapes. We must always tune in to our horses, to notice and make sure that they are our willing partners.
