I took my two horses to Sarah’s for two weeks of training before the season started. I actually only booked in for one week but I was getting so much out of it that I asked Sarah if I could stay another week and she was more than willing to accommodate. The 2 weeks of intense training really suited my learning style as I find it difficult to take my learnings and apply them on my own, so having Sarah there to reaffirm everything really helped with embedding what I had learnt. I know it might sound silly but I struggle to see what people mean when feedback is given, for example I was struggling to see (from the ground and on top) when the neck muscles are working. Sarah has access to lots of great training materials and walked me through various diagrams to help me understand what muscles she was referring to. This was invaluable as I had never really understood but now I do! I can even spot it at home on my own now.
Sarah has really great facilities - the indoor school was perfect when we had 3 storms in a week!! We did lots of pole work/gymnastic jumping which was great fun and sarah ran a few clinics which I joined in as well. Sarah was really great at tailoring the training based on what I needed to work on with both of my horses and fortunately there are lots of venues to go to that are near by. We went XC schooling at different venues, showjumping at Aston Le Walls, Hunting and the gallops were only a short hack away.
The staycation really worked for me as I am fortunate enough to have a laptop based job so I was able to carry on working! The house had good WiFi and was nicely finished so it really did feel like home. Everyone on the yard were lovely - from the grooms through to farriers and owners! It was interesting seeing what life on a professional yard as it is just me and my horses at home.
I am looking forward to my next trip!
- Staycation Regular
"I had a weekend staycation with Alison and Sarah in November. I had four personal lessons and two dismounted sessions. Apart from being exhausted (!) by the end, my horse and I learned so much - plus take away tips and techniques for building on this once back home. The individual attention and concentration is so rewarding. I will definitely go again. So good to be finally on track."
